The Spark That Started It All: WattBoy…After 2 Decades

Every journey starts with a spark—and for me, that was WattBoy.

For over 20 years, this odd little robot has been quietly bouncing around in the back of my mind: curious, kind, a bit awkward, and absolutely fascinated by how things work. Especially electricity. I didn’t know it at the time, but WattBoy was patiently waiting for me to catch up and bring him to life.

Now, I’m doing just that—starting a new adventure as the author and illustrator of a children’s book series featuring WattBoy (with the help of my co-conspirator Jack).

The first story will explore the magical world of electricity through the wide eyes of a quirky robot on a quest to understand where power comes from and how it flows through the world around us. Think power plants, transformers, and wires—each one explained in a way that’s fun, visual, and easy to grasp for curious young minds.

WattBoy’s first book is designed for ages 4–7 and features a blend of storybook charm and real-world STEM. Every other spread includes WattBoy’s sketchbook, filled with crayon drawings and childlike explanations of what he discovers along the way. It’s part story, part science, and all heart.

This is just the beginning. We’re equal parts excited and nervous—but mostly energized. Bringing WattBoy into the world feels like plugging into a long-dormant outlet of imagination.

Here’s to big ideas, small robots, and the power of curiosity!!!
Stay tuned—WattBoy has a lot to share. Woot!
